Trader Joe’s mini canvas tote bags are creating another frenzy this spring, and it’s not just for groceries (Trump's new favorite word). The popular $2.99 bags have returned in new pastel hues, and they’re a major resale hit, with listings on eBay and Poshmark reaching jaw-dropping four-digit prices.
Initially launched in March 2024, the pint-sized totes became an unexpected viral hit, with long queues forming outside stores and bags vanishing from shelves within hours. This year, Trader Joe’s reintroduced the mini totes in seasonal pastel shades of pink, blue, green, and purple, tapping into spring’s softer palette, and the hype is as strong as ever. According to PIX11, shipments began arriving at select New York City locations on April 8, with sales beginning the following morning in stores such as Williamsburg, Murray Hill, Harlem, and City Point.
Some locations, like Shrewsbury, New Jersey, began selling them even earlier. The craze has again spread over into online resale markets. A single pastel pink tote is currently listed for $1,699, with other colors slightly behind, purple at $1,600, blue at $1,400, and green at $1,100.

” Despite the craze, the company maintains its stance against resale. “We neither condone nor support the reselling of our products,” a Trader Joe’s representative told USA TODAY, emphasizing that such activity happens “without our approval or authorization.” With supplies limited and each store managing its own stock, customers hoping to snag a mini tote are advised to check in with local crew members.
