‘Time to end the upgrades’: MPs quit Qantas Chairman’s Lounge

Independent MPs Allegra Spender and Helen Haines said they would quit the invite-only club, calling for an end to upgrades on taxpayer-funded flights.

Login Independent MPs Allegra Spender and Helen Haines will hand back their membership to the invitation-only Qantas Chairman’s Lounge, and have called on the airlines to stop offering first- and business-class upgrades to politicians. As Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he did not believe any of his staff had sought upgrades from Qantas management on his behalf, Ms Spender accused the major parties of blocking competition by stopping Qatar from gaining greater access to the Australian aviation market.
