CORK CITY boss Tim Clancy warned his players there will be changes if they do not find their voice. City lost 4-1 to Shamrock Rovers on Monday night for what was their third successive defeat that leaves them second bottom of the table. Their recent run has coincided with being without key men as Ruairí Keating is out for the season while Seán Maguire, Greg Bolger, and Malik Dijksteel are also currently absent.
But Clancy said that is no excuse as he hailed goalkeeper Tien Troost for keeping the score down. And he said that his players are not making it difficult enough for the opposition, and not opening their mouths. He said: “Greg is going to back on Friday, to give us that a bit of experience which is greatly needed.
A voice on the pitch because we are too quiet. “There are too many players who don’t open their mouth. “If you don’t coach them to do it, go and sign players who will do it then.
I’ve said it to them where we are there.“I’ve played in my career, the last thing I’ve ever been described as is quiet but anyone on the pitch, information, every player speaks, every player will give information. “It’s a part of the game that can’t go away, if it does you’re not going to play at the highest level.
“If we have players who don’t open their mouth, we’ll just get players in who will do it. “If we don’t have players who have a desire to defend, then we’ll go and sign players who do. “There’s a window coming up, in eight weeks or wherever it is, that’s where we’re at.
If players don’t want to do it. “If we we have players in the building who are not willing to change, or improve on that side of the game, we’ll just get players in the summer who will.”‘TRICKY ONE’But Clancy acknowledged that signing free agents before the July window is particularly difficult having trawled the market for re-enforcements.
He said: “In England, the rules are different to practically everywhere else in Europe. “There’s a massive non-league system that players over there can go and play on a non-contract basis to keep themselves fit and then they can sign for a league club over there at any stage. “We can’t sign them, even on a non-contract, because we can’t sign amateurs outside of the transfer window.
“It has to be unattached professionals which mean you are looking at somebody who has been free since January which means limiting it down to the options that are available.“If you go looking for someone now who hasn’t kicked a ball since January, the reason they’ve left in January is because they weren’t kicking a ball before then anyway. The Leesiders now sit second from bottom with only seven points gained from their nine games“You are looking at someone who hasn’t played in six months and is going to be nowhere near fit.
It’s a tricky one. “Yes, we are actively looking, we might have to maybe take a chance, but it’s difficult to get someone at this stage when we have the injuries in areas we have them.”.
