As Karnataka continues to leverage digital innovation to enhance its agricultural landscape, the upcoming TiE Global Summit 2024 (TGS24) in Bengaluru and Mysuru promises to be a central platform for advancing this mission. Madan Padaki, Chair of TGS24 and President of TiE Bangalore , is at the forefront of the efforts to bridge the gap between agritech startups and traditional agricultural enterprises, and driving partnerships that promote sustainable practices and enhance productivity. In an interview with ET Online, Padaki outlines the transformative role of digital agrifintech in Karnataka’s agricultural sector.

He also discusses a plan to establish a Digital Agri Centre of Excellence (CoE) as a hub for innovation in agritech, agrifintech and climatetech, to facilitate mentorship and funding. Edited excerpts: ET: How is TiE Bangalore aiming to facilitate partnerships between agritech startups and traditional agricultural businesses to accelerate the adoption of digital solutions? Madan Padaki: TiE Bangalore, in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka, The World Bank and The Agri Collaboratory (TAC), is creating dynamic platforms for meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange, providing startups with access to mentorship, piloting opportunities and vital funding networks to scale up their innovations. As part of this initiative, we will harness the power of the TiE Global Summit 2024 — happening from December 9-11 in Bengaluru and December 12 in Mysuru.

It brings together global stakeholders to shape a five-year road map that will position Karnataka as a leader in digital agriculture . We aim to foster innovation, boost productivity and build a sustainable, inclusive agricultural sector that sets a model for India and beyond. ET: Give us an idea of how you will drive innovation and collaboration in this area.

MP: TiE Bangalore can play a pivotal role in this by acting as a bridge between startups, industry leaders, academic institutions and government bodies. We aim to create a dedicated hub that fosters innovation and collaboration in agritech, agrifintech and climatetech. Through the Digital Agri Centre of Excellence (CoE), we will bring together cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices to address critical challenges in agriculture, such as productivity, financing and climate resilience.

We will also facilitate partnerships with key stakeholders, promoting knowledge-sharing and co-development of technologies. Our efforts will be complemented by the global network of TiE and strategic collaborations with the Government of Karnataka, ensuring the CoE becomes a catalyst for sustainable agricultural growth and transformation across India and beyond. NET Core MVC 6 Project Guide for 2024 By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program ET: Are there any successful examples in digital agriculture, including agri fintech , that can be highlighted to inspire further innovation? MP: We are planning a complete track on ‘Agri Abundance’ at TGS24 to showcase several successful examples of digital agriculture that have transformed the landscape. One such example will be the integrated model created by Akshayakalpa. By sharing these success stories at TGS24, we hope to inspire further innovation in the space, encouraging startups to explore new ways to provide financial inclusion and sustainability for the agricultural sector.

ET: So will the insights gained from this workshop influence policy frameworks that support the growth of agritech in Karnataka? MP: The insights will help address key challenges like enhancing productivity and sustainability, and increasing the resilience of smallholder farmers. Digital technologies hold immense potential to tackle these issues, but their effective implementation requires the collaboration of all stakeholders. By fostering dialogue between government, academia and industry, we can shape a road map to strengthen institutional infrastructure, including the establishment of the Digital Agri Centre of Excellence.

This will enhance access to innovation, research and green financing, guiding policies that promote resource-efficient, sustainable agricultural practices . Ultimately, these insights will help create a policy environment that accelerates agritech adoption, benefiting farmers and ensuring a resilient agricultural ecosystem in Karnataka. ET: What are TiE Bangalore’s future plans? MP: Our goal is to expand our community to over 5,000 members in Bengaluru over the next three years and to establish five more specialised chapters across Karnataka.

We aim to strengthen TiE Bangalore’s position after TGS24 by building on the summit’s momentum through strategic partnerships and initiatives. We plan to engage key stakeholders, partners, and participants for sustained collaboration and showcase our thought leadership by aligning with the trends highlighted during the summit. We are also focusing on connecting with young entrepreneurs by launching targeted programmes to attract students and emerging innovators.

This involves working closely with universities and incubators to create a pipeline for future entrepreneurs and setting up mentorship programmes that cater specifically to young, aspiring founders. Additionally, we intend to organise events centred on specific sectors and themes to ensure high-value engagement. Our broader mission is to make entrepreneurship accessible and inclusive, reinforcing our commitment to impactful and meaningful initiatives.
