SIBU (Sept 9): The Mid-Autumn Festival, notably celebrated by the Chinese people, has now become a celebration of unity where it can be joined by people of diverse races and religions, said deputy minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang. Tiang, also Pelawan assemblyman, lauded the village development and security committee (JKKK) of his constituency and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sibu for the hosting of the festival here on Saturday.

“The programme this evening is not only attended by the Chinese community but also by other ethnic groups, and this truly reflects Sarawak’s culture and its spirit of unity and harmony,” he said when launching the event. This culture of unity in diversity, he said, has been deeply ingrained in the hearts of every Sarawakian, and therefore, ought to be upheld and practised for generations. He also hoped that such programme could serve as an example to the outsiders of the strong unity among the people of Sarawak.
