Cairo: Saudi civil defence authorities have advised people in the kingdom to take precautions after the meteorology office forecast that a current rainy weather will continue in most parts of the country until Monday. The kingdom’s General Directorate of Civil Defence urged members of the public to stay in safe places, keep off flood-hit areas and wadis (valleys), and refrain from swimming in them. The Mecca region is expected to be lashed by moderate-to-heavy rains, resulting in flash floods, hail showers, and dust-raising winds during this period.

Similarly, the Riyadh region is anticipated to be affected by moderate-to-heavy rains causing flooding and hail. Meanwhile, the regions of Tabuk, Medina, Al Jawf, the Northern Borders, Ha’il, Al Qassim, Al Baha and Asir are prone to moderate-to-heavy rainfall, along with light-to- moderate rains in the Jazan and Najran regions in the south-western part of the kingdom. Saudi Arabia is expected to experience its peak rainfall in April, marking it the rainiest month of the year, a weather forecaster said earlier this week.

Aqeel Al Aqeel, an analyst at the Saudi National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), added that based on climate data, the areas most affected by rains in April include Asir and Al Baha in the southwest, as well as Mecca and Taif in the west. These regions are expected to receive higher rain amounts than the rest of the country..
