Joey Logano doesn't want to think too much about his legacy. For now anyway. As the three-time and defending NASCAR Cup champion, Logano is tied for fifth for the most Cup titles with legends such as Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip.
Only racing legends Jeff Gordon (4), Richard Petty (7), Dale Earnhardt (7) and Jimmie Johnson (7) are ahead of him. And Logano is still only 34. But dealing with the task at hand is Logano's agenda for now as he heads to Darlington Raceway for the Goodyear 400 on April 6.
"I don't really think about it much. I don't know if that's good or bad. But for me, just think of the next day a lot of times," Logano said prior to an April 4 meet and greet with fans at Hang 10 Car Wash in Summerville.
"I don't think that far down the road. I think what's the next race, what's the next task I gotta complete. And the current will play out how it plays out some day.
I think sometimes it's important to look far down the road, but other times it's good just to look at the hood pins." Logano enters "The Track Too Tough to Tame" ninth in the points standings despite just one top 10 — coming in his last race at Martinsville — over his first seven points races. Only one other driver besides the defending champion in the top 10 has less than three top 10s (Ryan Blaney at No.
10), but Logano is tied for most stage wins with two and trails only Denny Hamlin in laps led this season with 260. "The first seven or eight have been eventful every time, so having an uneventful race — I feel like we've had top five cars in every race," Logano said. "I can't be disappointed in the speed or where the team's at.

11 Holly Farms paint scheme that he piloted for Junior Johnson and Associates. The Team Penske driver's car will be sporting a new look this weekend as he pays homage to Yarborough, a Florence native who died on the last day of 2023 at age 84 . Rather, an old look.
The No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Mustang Dark Horse will bear a resemblance to Yarborough's 1976 No. 11 Holly Farms paint scheme that he piloted for Junior Johnson and Associates.
"I can take personal credit on this one," Logano said. "Cale's a three-time champion as well. He's from Darlington right there, and with his recent passing, I thought it would be really cool to honor his legacy.
It has a little more special meaning for me." This will be the 23rd time racing at Darlington for Logano, who first competed at Darlington in 2009 at the age of 18. He won the Goodyear 400 in 2022 and has picked up 11 top-10 finishes and six top-five finishes.
Asked if he had a memorable "Darlington Stripe," a rite of passage for any driver who has hit the walls due to the high speeds and sharp turns at "The Lady in Black," Logano didn't hesitate. Joey Logano (20) crashes as Elliott Sadler goes past during the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, Saturday, May 8, 2010. The race was the second for Logano at Darlington Raceway, where he finished 27th.
"There's too many of them!" he said with a laugh. Sunday's race is at 3 p.m.
at Darlington Raceway and will be televised by FS1..
