Patna: Three women died and five others were injured, including one critically, after the tractor they were travelling in lost control and overturned on National Highway-31 in Maheshkhunt police station area of Khagaria district in the early hours of Sunday, said police. According to police, the tractor, carrying 25 people, including children, was on its way back to Mahaddipur village in Pasraha police station area of Khagaria district from Deoghar in neighbouring Jharkhand, when the fatal accident happened around 3am. Police said they had gone to Deoghar to attend their relatives' ‘mundan' (tonsure) ceremony.
Maheshkhunt station house officer (SHO) Dhananjay Kumar said the deceased women were related and identified as Shobha Devi (48), Sharda Devi (55) and Reena Devi (50). "Critically injured Nityanand Kumar was referred to Mayaganj Hospital in Bhagalpur, while others are being treated at the Sadar Hospital, Khagaria," said the SHO, adding the bodies were also sent for postmortem to the hospital..
