‘Three Towers’ power Conwell-Egan softball past Council Rock North

Conwell-Egan had 16 hits in a 16-5 win over Council Rock North.

NEWTOWN, Pa. — It’s been a season of some up and downs with drama in its pitching department, but there’s no doubt the Conwell-Egan High School softball team has some talented girls who can play the game. A case in point was provided on Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles improved to 7-4 by crushing Council Rock North, 16-5, in five innings.

It was an awesome display of hitting as Conwell-Egan pounded out 16 hits, including five of the extra base variety. “We’ve been waiting for the hitting to come together,” said Conwell-Egan coach Sandy Hart. “Our players know if we are going to win they are going to have to hit the ball.



Among those leading the way against Rock North were a trio of hitters in the heart of the lineup who Hart refers to as the “Three Towers.” All three are on the taller side and all of them have power. Batting in the third spot was Cecilia McBeth, who went 3-for-4 with a double and a towering three-run homer in the second.

It all added up to four RBIs for McBeth, who is going to play at Millersburg University in the fall and is also an accomplished shortstop Her defensive prowess was evident in the third when she first threw out a runner attempting to advance from second to third and then turned a double play by tagging out a runner before gunning the ball to first. The clean-up batter is Amiriah McKnight, Headed to Bloomsburg University to play basketball, she had just one hit in this game. but she did manage to drive in three runs.

The third “tower” is Lily Milewski. She went 3-for4 with a double, a two-run single and an RBI single. That all added up to three RBIs for a player who will continue her softball career at Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Setting the stage for the three mashers were the first two players in the batting order. No. 2 batter and junior second baseman Ange Pandolfi, who is also a future college player, was 3-or-3 with two doubles, a single and three RBIs.

Avery Kenworthy also had two hits in the lead-off spot, making the top five batters in the lineup a combined.13-for-19. Lauren Bedard pitched the first 3.

1 innings to get the win and Milewski finished up in relief. Freshman Mia Kiskurno, who has pitched some very good games for the Indians this year, took the loss. She departed the game in the second inning with Lucy Mills coming on in relief.

On the plus side for Rock North, Chelsea Seiler ripped two doubles. A key to the game was Conwell-Egan managed to hold Rock North’s outstanding leadoff batter Kayla Ripper hitless. Rock North also committed five damaging errors.
