Three Sussex towns are to get banking hubs after branch closures. Bexhill-on-Sea, East Grinstead, and Uckfield will be getting new hubs. The move comes after Santander announced branch closures in these areas.

The UK’s cash access and ATM network, LINK, made the recommendation for the banking hubs. The new hubs are part of a commitment to ensure continued access to cash and banking services. Banking hubs are shared spaces similar to traditional branches, accessible to all.

They consist of counter services operated by Post Office employees, where customers can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments, and conduct regular banking transactions. There are also private spaces for consultations with community bankers from different banks, for more complex banking matters. The community bankers will be available on a rotating basis from various banks.

Dr Chris Ashton, chief commercial officer at LINK, said: "While more people are choosing to bank and pay for things digitally, we know that many people still rely and choose to use cash and face-to-face banking. "That’s why we’re delighted to recommend three new hubs in East and West Sussex. "There are almost 150 hubs open across the country and when they open, these three banking hubs will be vital for the local community and high street.

" To date, LINK has recommended 224 banking hubs across the country, including three in Hailsham, Littlehampton, and Shoreham-by-Sea. The newly recommended banking hubs will be delivered by Cash Access UK. Over the coming weeks, they will begin engaging with the local community and start looking for potential sites.

Currently, there are 139 hubs open across the UK. These new hubs are intended to provide critical support to their respective communities and local high streets..
