Surat: Three people lost their high-end cars to cheats who fled with the vehicles in three separate incidents reported from the city. Two complaints were lodged in Althan and one in Rander police station. According to details, Vivek Maurya, who runs a food joint named Jay-Veeru in Vesu, lodged a complaint against his friend Sachu Rai, stating that the latter called him to meet at Athwalines Circle on Nov 12.
Maurya went there in his SUV. After receiving Rai from Athwalines, both went to a tea kiosk near Anuwrat Dwar. After reaching there, Rai asked for the car keys and told Maurya that he would be back in five minutes.
When Maurya offered to go with him, he refused and left alone in the car. After five minutes, Rai called Maurya and asked if there was a balance in his ATM card he kept in the car. Rai claimed that he wanted to refuel the car.
Maurya said there was no balance and asked him to come back soon. However, Rai switched off his phone and did not return. In the second complaint in Althan, Kamrej resident Pratik alias Mayur Raiyani received a luxurious car from a land broker, Lalji Patel, for selling.
Raiyani got the car to show to another party. However, when he did not come back, Patel called him. Raiyani told him that his car was sold and transferred Rs 50,000 to him and gave a cheque of Rs 12.
50 lakhs. However, the cheque bounced in March this year, after which he kept on giving excuses for the payment. As he did not give the money or car back, Patel filed a cheating complaint with Althan police on Nov 12.
In a similar incident, cheater Abhishek Nandwani offered to sell his wife Anshu Arora's sedan to broker Devendra Vyas in Aug this year. After sealing the deal for Rs 15.21 lakhs, Vyas completed the payment on August 16 and inked an agreement.
According to the condition, Nandwani would submit the loan NOC and second key to Vyas in seven days. However, instead of giving the second key, Nandwani stole the car from Vyas's society common plot on Aug 27. As Nandwani did not give the car or money back, Vyas filed a complaint of breach of trust with Rander police.
