Motorists have been warned to brace for the busiest days of December, with one day predicted to set a new record. The AA has forecasted that traffic will reach its peak on Friday, December 20, followed by Saturday, December 21, and Monday, December 23. Consequently, the AA has issued an unusual amber warning for congestion on these three days.
With the festive season in full swing, it's anticipated roads and motorways will be jam-packed in the lead up to Christmas . A staggering 23.7 million drivers are projected to take to the road next Friday (December 20), making it the busiest of all three days.
However, around three fifths of journeys (58%) will be local, covering a distance of less than 50 miles. This is the last weekend before Christmas when drivers will be travelling to visit loved ones and purchase last-minute gifts.
An estimated 22.7 million drivers are expected to hit the roads next Saturday (December 21) and the following Monday (December 23), which are also predicted to be busy. Sunday, December 22, is also expected to be bustling with 21.
3 million drivers on the road, while Christmas Eve on December 24 is expected to see 21.7 million drivers out and about, reports Birmingham Live . The AA has pinpointed several key stretches of motorway that could become congestion hotspots, particularly in the West Midlands.
