, Nov. 6 Donald Trump has given the American people licence to voice their true feelings about immigrants, race and women and they have used it. They can never again use the phrase “this is not who we are.
” This election shows how far Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and the old guard have driven the Democrats onto the rocks. Those left out of the American promise have bonded with the far right and it will be a long time before they will return to the fold. Given our current politics this may be a movie coming to a theatre near you.
A very sad day for democracy. On Nov. 6, I woke with a sense of dread much more profound than following the 2016 election.
It seems that the U.S. Civil War continues to be fought, never truly resolved.
Someone had to lose and now it is the other side that has won the decisive battle. There is much truth to the adage that people get “the government they deserve,” but as in previous iterations of this insanity, the damage has to be done before they see the light. Unfortunately, all of us will be caught in the crosshairs.
Although I didn’t vote for Donald Trump, I feel compelled to apologize for those who did. Canada has always been a staunch ally as well as a good friend and you most certainly do not deserve whatever tariffs are sure to follow. Please be considerate of the long lines of Americans that will soon flock to your border.
Remember, we are political refugees that only look to live in peace. I’m filled with dismayment regarding what happened in the U.S.
election. I wasn’t sure if “dismayment” was a word, so I Googled it. Turns out it isn’t, but it once was until it became obsolete in the mid-1600s.
And that in itself makes “dismayment” an appropriate word for me. All that I stand for now seems obsolete. If you admire Julius Caesar, rejoice.
If you venerate Vladimir Putin, celebrate. If you believe that women should be possessions, stand together. A convicted felon, narcissist wannabe dictator has reached the most powerful position on earth.
The rest of us will seek shelter. , Nov. 3 And first prize, among the scores of U.
S. election articles in newspapers here and abroad over the past several months, goes to Jaime Watt..
