MasterVoices is set to present Scott Davenport Richards and David Cote’s “Blind Injustice” on Feb. 3 and 4, 2025. “Blind Injustice” is based on the story of “The Ohio Innocence Project’s work to overturn the convictions of six men, women, and teens who were wrongly imprisoned for violent crimes they didn’t commit.

” The New York premiere of the opera, set for Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center, will be led by MasterVoices’ artistic director Ted Sperling and stars Thomas Capobianco, Phillip Bullock, Joshua Dennis, Marc Kudisch, Briana Hunter, Reilly Nelson, Victoria Okafar, Joseph Parrish, Christian Pursell, Orson Van Gay II, and Miles Wilson-Toliver. The opera is directed by Robin Guarino and conducted by Ted Sperling. The production features costume design by Tracy Christensen and lighting design by Jason Flamos.



Each performance is followed by a 30-minute conversation with four exonerees showcased in this opera, including Nancy Smith, Laurese Glover, Clarence Elkins, and Rickey Jackson. The opera had its world premiere at Cincinnati Opera in 2019 and was described by Heidi Waleson of the Wall Street Journal as “Seamless, hard-hitting and affecting.
