Saints bounced past the Red Devils at Knowsley Road with braces from Jamie Lyon and Sean Long and other tries from Darren Albert, Willie Talau, Ade Gardner and Keiron Cunningham. Paul Sculthorpe kicked seven goals. 30 Years Ago.



12 March 1995. Hull FC 32 Saints 43. Saints came out on top at a free-scoring 75-point clash at The Boulevard with braces for Dave Lyon and Sonny Nickle, with Andy Northey, Anthony Sullivan, Keiron Cunningham and Chris Joynt also crossing the whitewash.

40 Years Ago. 10 March 1985. Saints 62 Workington Town 0.

Neil Holding scored a hat-trick against the Cumbrians, with the other tries spread across Phil Veivers, Barry Ledger, Mal Meninga, Tony Burke, Peter Gorley, Roy Haggerty, Paul Round and Chris Arkwright. Ledger kicked nine goals. 45 Years Ago.

9 March 1980. York 5 Saints 18. Saints defeated relegation-haunted York at Wiggington Road, with Welsh wingman Roy Mathias crossing for a brace of tries.

Brian Parkes and Steve Peters grabbed Saints’ others, with Harry Pinner kicking three goals. 50 Years Ago. 11 March 1975.

Saints 16 Wakefield 6. League leaders Saints beat that year’s bogey side Trinity with tries from Roy Mathias, Jeff Heaton, John Mantle and Eric Chisnall. Kel Coslett kicked two goals.

55 Years Ago. 10 March 1970, Doncaster 4 Saints 4. Saints were held to a draw in their Challenge Cup quarter final at Tattersfield with their points from two Kel Coslett goals.

60 Years Ago. 13 March 1965. Oldham 9 Saints 15.

Welsh packman John Mantle scored Saints’ only try, but six goals from South African wing Len Killeen made sure of the win at The Watersheddings. 65 Years Ago. 12 March 1960.

Saints 13 Barrow 12. Two Ken Large tries and one from Springbok wing Tom van Vollenhoven, plus two goals from Austin Rhodes saw Saints edge a one-point win against the Shipbuilders.
