While TV shows have always been a source of entertainment for audience, it can be knowledgeable too. Some television shows not just provide a delightful experience, but also impart wisdom and life-long lessons. One of the shows that stands right example for this is Adapted by RK Narayan’s collection of short stories by the same name, Malgudi Days first aired in 1986 on Doordarshan.



The show was initially bankrolled in both English and Hindi, including 54 episodes across four seasons. In 2006, it was renewed with 15 episodes directed by Kavitha Lankesh. Malgudi Days starred many renowned actors including Girish Karnad, B Jayashree, and Deven Bhojani among others.

Each episode of the show talks about childhood innocence, human emotions and societal norms. The series was filmed in Agumbe, a village in Karnataka, which was fully transformed to showcase the town of Malgudi. Its relatable storytelling and true portrayal of rural life wins audiences hearts and became a timeless classic in Indian television history.

Art director, John Devaraj, perfectly transformed village of Agumbe into Malgudi. According to reports, donkeys were brought from Shimoga, while elephants were brought from Bengaluru. Not only this, makers took money from their friends for other logistical reasons.

With tons of hard work and dedication, the set was finally ready, looking authentic in every which way in the show. Malgudi Days is considered apt for children as it introduces them to simplicity and teaches them the valuable lessons of empathy and kindness. Being truly authentic, it imbibes the importance of community in kids.
