Android users risk multiple security alerts and the latest one affects millions of smartphone users in the country. Android smartphone users in India have got a big security risk alert from the government this month. The new warning comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) this week.
The security agency has mentioned these exploits have the potential to allow attackers to gain sensitive information, even for those who are using the latest Android 15 phones in the country. Android Security Alert: What You Should Know The biggest point to know about the new vulnerabilities is that it affects older Android versions like 12, 12L, 13, but they also impact people who bought their phones with Android 14 or the latest 15 versions in the last few years as well. Going by the overall Android user base situation in India, we could be looking at over 300 million users at risk because of the security issues that have come to light.
Further details given in the March 12 security bulletin, suggest the issues have been discovered in components of chip makers like MediaTek and Qualcomm. “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in the Framework, media framework, system, documents UI, kernel, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closed-source components," the bulletin explains. And like we always say, having these many chip makers on the affected list means, brands like Samsung, Realme, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Vivo have to be concerned about the issue, and make sure they release security patches for these vulnerabilities right away.
Google has identified the issues and the security patches are available with more details. Now, it is up to the phone brands to develop their respective versions for the patches and roll them out at the earliest..
