This Morning has come under fire from viewers for a segment that many deemed in "poor taste" . In today's episode, presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley interviewed John Di Domenico, an actor posing as Donald Trump. Initially, they interacted with him as though he were the actual US President Elect.
However, the skit didn't sit well with some viewers who expressed their discomfort and criticised the show for mocking the US election outcome, which saw Trump win over Kamala Harris. Disgruntled viewers voiced their disapproval on social media platforms. One viewer wrote: "#ThisMorning ridiculous and not at all funny ! Go away nobody is enjoying this rubbish," while another questioned: "Aren't the producers wondering why #ThisMorning hasn't won an NTA for the second year running?" Another comment read: "@ThisMorning well that's done in bad taste, changing channel.
#Thismorning," and a fourth shared their astonishment: "I don't think I've ever seen something as ridiculous as this since yesterday. #ThisMorning." Further criticism came with a tweet stating: "Good grief, what the hell has happened to #ThisMorning.
" Another viewer pointed out the sensitivity of the subject: "The thing is ...
...
..Trump as president really isn't funny #thismorning.
" During the controversial segment, John mimicked Trump, while Ben and Cat posed questions to him, including one about his thoughts on why the American electorate chose him as their leader. The impersonator responded with: "Because they love me, they absolutely love me. I'm the greatest president in the whole of US history.
They want to get rid of Joe and Kamala; they want me." Questions were raised about Melania's whereabouts and her role as First Lady, with references to bizarre claims questioning if she was 'real' after she was seen wearing sunglasses indoors. The impersonator quipped: "Her prenup says she'll be at the inauguration, Christmas , Easter, and some of the other holidays.
That's a guarantee. She doesn't have to kiss me, but she has to kiss my lips." Subsequently, the conversation shifted to the real individual behind the impersonation.
John also shared anecdotes of his encounters with Trump, including times when he was in character as Austin Powers. "I've met him a number of times. He's aware of me, for sure," John revealed to presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley.
To which Cat responded with praise, telling him: "We've had some great laughs this morning, you are absolutely brilliant." *This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am..
