Based in Montreal, the company uses selvedge denim sourced from Japan to locally craft some seriously cool denim designs. But, be advised, these styles are created with ‘denim nerds’ in mind. There’s no stretch in these jeans.
The high-quality material used to create the clothing is designed to get better with age, wearing in as you wear it for a cool, custom effect. The brand’s designs are available online through its own platforms and at select retailers across Canada, including Simons and Gravitypope . We caught up with Brandon Svarc, founder and president of the brand, to learn more: Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is Naked & Famous? A: We’re a raw denim brand based in Montreal since 2008.
We call ourselves “denim nerds” because we’re obsessed with making great jeans with Japanese denim renowned for its unbeatable durability and character. We don’t pay celebrities, and we don’t artificially distress our products — everything is cut, sewn and finished in Canada. Our focus is on high-quality, raw, selvedge denim for people who truly value genuine craftsmanship.
Q: What makes it unique? A: We’re the only jeans brand entirely made in Canada — every pair is cut, sewn and finished here. We work directly with Japan’s top mills to develop exclusive selvedge denim, merging heritage craftsmanship with innovation. That means pushing the boundaries of what denim can be — think glow-in-the-dark fabric, scratch-and-sniff coatings, thermochromic denim that changes colour with heat, and ultraheavy selvedge.
No one else blends tradition and experimentation quite like we do. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Naked & Famous Denim (@nakedandfamousdenim) Q: Who is the target customer? A: Anyone who cares about denim. Whether it’s hardcore collectors obsessed with fades and the break-in process or someone looking for a single, high-quality pair that will last for years, our customers value durability and craftsmanship.
They appreciate well-made, no nonsense jeans that evolve over time — without artificial gimmicks. Q: Is there a ‘hero’ design in the lineup? A: Our Elephant Series has a devoted following — heavyweight selvedge denim that starts off incredibly stiff but softens into something truly special. Personally, I’m obsessed with our 32 oz and 40 oz jeans.
The 40 oz, in particular, was dream years in the making — borderline ridiculous, but exactly the kind of challenge we love. They’re so thick and rigid that they can literally stand on their own when new. It’s one of the most extreme jeans ever made, and I couldn’t be prouder that we pulled it off.
Q: What is the price range? A: Most of our core styles are in the $175 to $250 range, depending on fabric weight and details. Limited editions — like the ultraheavy 40 oz — can go higher. Q: Where can people learn more? A: Visit nakedandfamousdenim.
