Japan’s Shikoku bank has made its staff take a Seppuku pledge in the event of committing fraud. Seppuku is a Japanese ritual of unaliving oneself. The pledge has been handed down to the Shikoku bank from their predecessor bank, 37th National, since 1878, a few years after the country ceased the official practice.
The bank has made its 23 employees sign the pledge stamped in their own blood. Per the covenant of the bank, anyone employed there would pay from their own property for committing theft or instigating others in burglary. Finally, they will have to commit seppuku over the crime.

I’m sure they take it very seriously and many Japanese bankers have committed suicide over the years for blunders much less heinous than outright theft. — tbone (@tbonecapital) November 24, 2024 See Also: What Is ‘Quiet Quitting’?
