AN EXPLOSIVE was detonated in a controlled environment close to Blacon Police Station on Thursday, the force has confirmed. Reports were posted to social media after concerned residents heard the loud explosion at around 3.45pm.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police confirmed that after bomb disposal experts attended, the decision to make the controlled detonation was made. They said: “On Thursday, April 10, police attended a premises in Boundary Lane, Chester, in relation to the disposal of weaponry. “A possible explosive device was discovered and following attendance by the the explosive ordnance disposal team, a controlled explosion was carried out in an open area near Blacon Police Station, in Blacon Avenue, as a precaution.
“A cordon was in place while the incident was dealt with.” Reports on social media alleged that an item of ‘old military ordnance’ which had been bought at auction was then handed to police by the owner..
