This week is National 4-H week and Marion County 4-H encourages more members to get involved. Since 4‐H began more than 100 years ago, it has become the nation’s largest youth development organization. The 4‐H idea is to help young people and their families gain the skills needed to be proactive forces in their communities and develop ideas for a more innovative economy.
Head, Heart, Hands, and Health are the four H’s in 4-H, representing the values members work on through fun and engaging projects. Iowa 4-H Youth Development is the main youth development program of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Marion County has 12 active 4-H clubs throughout the county, along with a number of clover kid groups for those who are younger than fourth grade.
4-H groups typically meet once a month and offer a wide variety of programming and opportunities throughout the year. A large part of 4-H is having the opportunity to bring exhibits to the Marion County Fair, but also learning about a wide variety of areas of interest. If you are interested in joining 4-H in Marion County you can do so by emailing marion4h@iastate.
edu . Casey’s is also donating $1 for every large pizza ordered to 4-H programs in their community until November 5th..
