A much-loved Stockport shop described as a 'cornerstone of the community' has announced big plans for its future. The new-look Simply Books in Bramhall, which reopened in September under new ownership, will transform into a full service wine bar in the evenings, while keeping the bookshop and café in the daytime. Last December, owners of the business shocked residents by announcing they would be closing after 21 years .

The independent store had previously won a number of accolades, including being named Independent Bookseller Of The Year in 2009 at the Bookseller Awards. The new bar will also serve several non-alcoholic and soft drinks alongside a range of bar snacks.

They'll be open right into the evenings everyday but Sunday, closing at 9.30pm Monday through to Wednesday, and 10.30pm from Thursday to Saturday.

While the bookshop would like people to buy a glass or two of wine, they have explained that there is no obligation to buy a book from the shop, with customers encouraged to bring one with them if they like. Simply Books in Bramhall (Image: Simply Books) Speaking about the next chapter for the bookshop on their website, co-owner Ben Johns said: "What we’re launching is a fantastic wine bar in its own right, that has the unique twist of being inside a bookshop - one that will be open for purchases and recommendations whenever the lights are on. "We’re wanting to create a social space that you instinctively choose as your place to go on an evening out, but also one you’d feel comfortable in coming to alone with your book and curling up in a corner.

" Sharing the news on Facebook yesterday (November 7), followers were quick to express their excitement over the new opening. One wrote: "Amazing. Perfect combination, books and wine.

" A second added: "This is my dream night out ! Best of luck." And a third said: "Fabulous idea. Wishing you all the very best.

The shop has also pledged to carry on with their reputation in the community, supporting local authors with book launches, readings, poetry open mic nights and creative writing workshops, as well as partnering with local schools and community groups to promote literacy and reading for residents. Those interested in attending the official opening can register here and depending on the level of interest, the shop may put a booking system in place.

Those registering will also be entered into a competition to attend the private launch party on Friday, 22 November. Simply Books is on 228 Moss Lane, Bramhall, Stockport, SK7 1BD..
