Music for the film was by AR Rahaman, and had cinematography by Ravi K Chandran and editing was by Sreekar Prasad. R Madhavn-starrer was a big hit and bagged over several accolades. The film won the National Film Award under the category of Best Feature Film in Tamil.
It also received the National Film Awards under the categories of Best Music Director, Best Child Artist, Best lyrics and best editing. The story revolved around a child born to Sri Lankan parents, being adopted by Indian parents and her desire to meet real parents amid the Sri Lankan Civil War. The title of the film Kannathil Muthamittal (A peck on the cheek) was named after a famous phrase from a poem written by Subramanya Bharathi.
R Madhavan rose to fame with his debut film, directed by Mani Ratnam. The actor collaborated with the director for the third time in a row. Keerthana Parthiepan’s performance was the highlight of the movie and she won National Award for the Best Child Artist in the year 2003.
Keerthana tied the knot with filmmaker Akshay Akkineni on March 8, 2018. Akshay is the son of renowned film editor A.Sreekar Prasad, a multiple National Award winner celebrated for his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema.
