Saha, who turned 40 years of age last year, turned out in 40 Tests and 9 ODI matches for India in his international career.

Saha turned out for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024 season but hasn’t been retained by the franchise for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire.

Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha posted on social media platform ‘X’. After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire.

Let’s make this season one to remember! — Wriddhiman Saha (@Wriddhipops) Saha also turned out in 170 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans. Saha’s best score of 115 not out came in IPL 2014 final while turning out for Punjab Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders. It was the only appearance of PBKS in an IPL final till date.

The Bengal stumped was released alongside other big names like Mohammad Shami, David Miller, R. Sai Kishore and Matthew Wade by the Gujarat Titans. Saha represented Bengal from 2007 to 2022 before joining Tripura for 2 years after he had a falling out with a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official where the said official had accused the player of making excuses for not playing the Ranji.

He returned to the Bengal fold in August this year. According to Sportstar website, the 40-year-old is unlikely to feature in next year’s IPL as he hasn’t registered himself for the IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled to be held later this month. “Even though the cricketer remained mum on the issue, sources indicate that an official announcement in this regard could be made just before the auction,” the Sportstar report read.

He was upset with comments by a senior CAB official, who had raised questions over Saha’s commitment after he decided to skip the group stage of the Ranji Trophy due to personal reasons. He even exited the Bengal team’s WhatsApp group, despite coach Arun Lal having a word with the India international. Saha has been out of national reckoning since December 2021 and back in 2022, during the tour of South Africa, he was informed by the then India head coach Rahul Dravid that the selectors and the team management were looking beyond him.

He scored 1,353 runs in 40 Tests for India at an average of 29.41 with 3 hundreds and 6 fifties. In 170 IPL matches, he notched up 2,934 runs with 1 hundred and 13 fifties.
