A Chinese retailer, that was banned in India in 2020, is all set to make a comeback through a partnership with Reliance retail.

Chinese fast-fashion retailer Shein is all set to make a comeback in India through a partnership with Reliance retail - one of the largest retailers in India in terms of revenue. Notably, Shein was blocked in India on June 29, 2020, along with 200 other Chinese apps by the central government. As per a report by Times of India , the comeback of the Chinese retail giant follows a backend test launch on Reliance's fashion website - Ajio.

It is expected that the rollout will also extend to other Reliance platforms. Meanwhile, the move positions Shein with established players in India such as, Tata Zudio, Myntra, Trends, H&M, Zara etc, in the affordable fast-fashion segment. World's most visited fashion website As per a report by Similarweb, Shein emerged as the world's most visited fashion website in September 2024.

With a global web traffic share of 2.68% for the third quarter of 2024, the Chinese retailer outshone brands like Nike, H&M, and Zara. Shein website's transaction-making users in August surged nearly 40% compared to January, as per a data by Earnest.
