Chinese group BYD has unveiled a new suspension system on its Yangwang U7 model that is capable of keeping the interior compartment stable and free from excessive vibrations in all situations – even when going up or down stairs. Named DiSus-Z, this system relies on an active electromagnetic suspension, which adjusts the height and tautness of each wheel in real time to adapt to the unevenness of the terrain. The manufacturer demonstrated its technology showing how its electric sedan took on a stairclimb without the cabin experiencing any significant jolts.
The effectiveness of the system revealed with this type of obstacle suggests that it should be able to handle any other more or less uneven terrain. The system automatically adjusts the height and tension of the suspension system in real time, depending on road conditions and driving style. To achieve this, the vehicle uses advanced sensors, including LiDARs (laser pulse remote sensing) and cameras that detect road irregularities in advance.
This allows it to make up to 1,000 adjustments per second to ensure the smoothest possible ride in all circumstances. This system replaces traditional hydraulic shock absorbers with magnetic suspension motors, a technology that is now integrated into the Yangwang U7, a premium sedan that makes claims of unprecedented driving comfort. In terms of its other specifications, the Yangwang U7 is equipped with four electric motors, one per wheel, delivering a total power of 960 kW (the equivalent of almost 1,300 hp), which allows it a maximum speed of 270 km/h.
Its range is said to exceed 700 km. This vehicle is currently exclusive to the Chinese market. It should be noted that this high-end brand allows BYD to experiment with numerous concepts.
In 2024, Yangwang integrated a drone into its U8 model capable of flying over the car at any time to film the road in front of and all around it. – AFP Relaxnews 91d9ba93-140c-4632-900f-4326bb616a27.original.
