Made on a budget of Rs 8 crore, Ajooba was the most expensive Indian film made until then and was expected to be Amitabh Bachchan's comeback project after a series of flop films.

But, after its release in April 1991 on the Eid weekend, Ajooba proved to be a super flop at the box office.
