Born in Andhra Pradesh in 1958, Jayalaxmi made her debut with A. Nageswara Rao in the 1972 film Iddaru Ammayilu. She was 14 when she started working.

Later, she made her Tamil debut with K. Balachander’s Aval Oru Thodar Kathai. The movie turned out to be a huge hit, and her phrase ‘Fatafat’ (quickly) became a catchphrase across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

After that, the audience started calling her Fatafat Jayalaxmi. During her golden days, she worked with several superstars, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Krishna, N. T.

Rama Rao, and Chiranjeevi. In 2018, Rajinikanth called Jayalaxmi one of his favourite actresses. In 1980, when Jayalaxmi was 22 years old, she got married to the nephew of former superstar-turned-politician M.

G. Ramachandran (MGR). For decades, MGR was one of the top actors in the South Indian film industry before moving to politics.

When Jayalaxmi got married, MGR had already been the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for three years. However, tragedy struck when, at 22, news broke that Jayalaxmi had passed away. Her marriage did not last long, and hardly three weeks after she turned 22, Fatafat Jayalaxmi was found hanging in her home.

After investigating the matter, the police ruled it a suicide over an alleged failed romance. For breaking news and live news updates, like us on or follow us on and . Read more on Latest on .
