Before he started working behind the lens, he delivered a hit before, but later stepped away from limelight to work behind the lens. Subhash Ghai was born on 24 January 1945. He was one of the most prominent Hindi filmmakers in the 1980s and 1990s.



In 1982, Subhash founded Mukta Arts, which became a public company in 2000, with himself serving as its executive chairman. In the early 60s, he made his acting debut, with only a few noticeable roles. However, in 1969, he acted in the blockbuster film Aradhana, starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore, where Subhashgot a sustainable role on-screen.

While not a lead, it was enough to get him noticed. Later he starred in films like Umang, Bharat Ke Shaheed, Sherni, and Natak. But Subhash wasn’t making up to his mark and was struggling as an actor in Bollywood.

In 1979, he switched to direction and took his first directorial project Kalicharan. The film became a hit and it stars Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy in lead roles. Following that, he directed films like Karz, Hero, Saudagar, Karma, Pardes and became the man who shaped the face of mainstream Bollywood cinema for decades.

Subhash Ghai gave Madhuri Dixit a breakthrough opportunity in 1989 with the film Ram Lakhan, pairing her alongside Anil Kapoor. At that time, Dixit had only appeared in one film, Abodh, which wasn't commercially successful. However, her captivating performance and impressive dance skills in Ram Lakhan propelled her to stardom, marking a significant turning point in her career.

His support played a pivotal role in establishing her as a leading actress in Bollywood and he became her godfather in the industry.
