Third person bailed after weekend assault in town

A 45-year-old man has been bailed after an altercation in Newmarket over the weekend.

A third person has been bailed following an altercation in Newmarket at the weekend. Officers were called at 3.40pm on Saturday (March 8) to reports of an altercation involving four people in High Street.

Two men were injured as a result of the incident and were taken to hospital. A man, aged 45, was discharged from hospital and arrested on suspicion of affray and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He was bailed to return to police on June 9 while the investigation continues.

His condition is still being described as critical but stable. Two men, aged 23 and 25, were arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

The pair were released on bail until Thursday, June 5, pending further enquiries. Detectives are still appealing for witnesses who have not yet come forward to make contact.
