Giuntoli had given the coach his support following an unfortunate 3-0 loss against Fiorentina, which proved to be his last game in charge, but reports in the following week claimed that there was a heated exchange between the coach, director and CEO Maurizio Scanavino. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported at the time that Giuntoli told Motta: “I’m ashamed at having chosen you,” but the former Bianconeri head coach has denied that those words were ever spoken. He told Corriere della Sera: “No, I never had the conversation that was written about, ever.

And I never had a quarrel with the sporting director, never. “We talked about how to improve the team, like always, and we did it with clarity and honesty, with different opinions, which again, is normal. It is these lies specifically that I do not intend to let pass.
