Mareena Michael, a popular actress known for her bold roles in Malayalam cinema, including Happy Wedding and Chunkzz, recently shared a personal side of her life in an interview with Kaumudi Movies. The actress, who has acted in around 30 films, opened up about her struggles with body image and hair insecurity. Mareena described her appearance as having the “MDMA look,” referencing the stereotype associated with people having curly hair.
“Anyone with curly hair is often seen as a terrorist, a Naxalite or a bully. In one word, I have the MDMA look,” she joked. She went on to reveal how self-conscious she was about her hair during her school days.
“I used to comb my hair neatly and tie it up. I was very insecure about it. When I was in school, some people would tease me and I felt bullied.
There was nothing I liked about my hair,” she said. The actress also shared that her mother used to oil her hair and tie it back on both sides. However, she would receive ridicule whenever she let her hair down.
As a result, Mareena started wearing a shawl to hide her hair, which led some people to believe that she was in a relationship with a Muslim boy. “Until I was in Plus Two, my family, friends and locals thought I was in love with some Muslim boy,” she added..
