When looking to upgrade my outdoor space last summer, I was lusting after a high-end garden furniture set from the Danish brand Hay . But, given that the furniture retails for upwards of £3,000, it was somewhat out of my budget. I couldn’t quite believe my luck, then, when I stumbled on a noticeably similar picnic table set from George at Asda for less than £300 .
Despite its affordable price tag, it’s been a sturdy and reliable addition to the garden, adding a pop of colour and a lovely place to enjoy al fresco dining. So I was particularly excited to see that George at Asda has reintroduced the green slatted picnic table to its summer offering for the second year and added a host of other furniture items that look so much more expensive than they are. From egg chairs to bistro sets, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite items from the brand’s current collection that offer a high-end appearance without breaking the bank.
For the second year in a row, Asda has introduced the green slatted picnic bench to its outdoor furniture collection, priced at £299 . However, last year the table sold out, and I had to wait until there was a restock before I could call it my own. So, if it is something you have your eye on, you may want to snap it up soon.
The metal slat bench and table are made mostly from steel, with a few plastic covers to hide the bolts holding them together. The long rectangular table comes with two matching benches in a light green shade. It does arrive in parts, so you’ll need to construct it at home, which some shoppers on the George website have claimed to be tricky.
However, we didn’t struggle at all putting it together, and it has remained strong. The table is still in stock at the time of writing. This modern lounge chair ’s matte black metal and curved edges make it look expensive, yet it is just £39 .
The relaxed chair is made from a galvanised steel frame and a fabric seat with a chic green and white checkerboard print. There’s also a built-in headrest for extra comfort. The chair arrives in parts, so you will have to put it together yourself, but speaking from experience, Asda’s garden furniture range is simple enough to put together and comes with easy-to-follow instructions.
Egg chairs are all the rage, with brands including Dunelm and Habitat releasing their versions of the quirky furniture item. Asda has also jumped on the trend with a modern take on it. While many egg chairs are hanging, this one is a standing egg chair made from hand-woven rattan.
The chair also comes with cream-textured cushions to ensure maximum comfort. The cream colourway looks expensive, and rattan furniture always reminds me of holidays, so it’s the perfect addition for the summer months. It retails for £249 .
Another garden furniture set that looks a lot like designer brand Hay is the green metal slat bistro set. It’s the same shade of green and design style as the picnic bench, but it is more suitable for a smaller space. Though it has a similar vibe to more high-end garden furniture, this chic bistro set is just £99 (with delivery starting from £3.
75). The set has a classic round bistro table and two chairs , made from metal slats with rounded arms. Made from light green galvanised steel, it can add a pop of colour to your garden.
You’ll need to put in a little work putting it together when it arrives, but given my experience with the picnic bench, it will likely be a quick job.
