Parents are being urged to speak to their children after a spate of fires being started in beauty spots. Over the past days and weeks, fires have been deliberately started in parks, including Longsight Park, Seven Acres Country Park and more recently, and in what is being described as the most serious, at the Darcy Lever railway cutting. This happened on Wednesday and is again being put down to youths causing anti-social behaviour.

A couple of weeks ago there was another fire that was started at the other side of the cutting. It’s dangerous and should be dealt with before someone gets hurt.” Speaking to The Bolton News a spokesperson for Bolton Central F ire Station said: “We have noticed an increase in back street secondary fires being lit around the borough over the Easter period.
A spokesperson from Bolton Central noted that the fires are a result of anti-social behaviour. (Image: Alan Armstrong) “We are doing joint work with Bolton’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, who have increased patrols and visibility to mitigate the issue of anti-social behaviour , especially regarding children and young people. “I would advise people to take their wheelie bins in once they have been emptied, also to report fly tipping in areas when it occurs.
” Cllr Adele Warren of the Breightmet ward said: “These fires are especially dangerous at the moment because of the dry conditions. It’s upsetting to see the amount of damage that these can cause, especially when it comes to our green spaces. Firefighters remained at the scene to ensure the area was made safe.
(Image: Alan Armstrong) “The fires pose a risk to everyone involved, including those who start them. “As parents, it is a responsibility to educate their children and make sure they are aware of the dangers surrounding starting fires. “There are so many other ways to enjoy our green spaces in Bolton without resorting to starting fires.
