The Wives , a new six-part thriller, begins airing on Channel 5 tonight. Reportedly drawing inspiration from Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 Gothic novel Rebecca , the series was created by Time writer Helen Black . It stars Tamzin Outhwaite, Angela Griffin and Jo Joyner as three sisters-in-law and best friends who are trying to solve the mystery of the death – initially ruled an accident – of their fellow sister-in-law Annabelle (Christine Bottomley).

The newly single character of Sylvie Morgan in The Wives is played by Tamzin Outhwaite , of EastEnders fame. Aside from portraying Melanie Owen in the long-running soap, Outhwaite has more recently appeared on The Masked Dancer as Scarecrow, as well as playing Cathy Teel in The Tower .
Sister-in-law number two, the financially compromised Natasha Morgan, is played by Angela Griffin . Griffin, 48, will be recognisable from past roles including Fiona Middleton in Coronation Street , Kim Campbell in Waterloo Road , DS Lizzie Maddox in Lewis and Jasmine Hopkins in Holby City . In addition to more recent appearances in The Suspect and The Serial Killer’s Wife , she has hosted BBC Radio 2’s Unwinds show since 2021.
Meanwhile, Jo Joyner stars as Beth Morgan. As well as playing Tanya Branning in EastEnders , Joyner has featured in series including Stay Close , For Her Sins , Riptide , Ackley Bridge and Shakespeare & Hathaway . The Wives was filmed on location on the island of Malta , at sites reportedly included the streets of the capital, Valletta, and the shores of the nearby island of Gozo . A synopsis of the show reads: “Sylvie Morgan was happily married, Natasha Morgan was swimming in wealth, and Beth Morgan and Annabelle Morgan were thick as thieves. “But this year, as they come together again, everything is different.
Sylvie’s now single and loving life, Natasha’s hiding a desperate financial situation, Beth is barely keeping her life together and Annabelle is, well...

It is followed by episodes two and three in the same time slot on Tuesday and Wednesday 17 and 18 September , respectively, with episodes four to six then airing at 9pm between Monday 23 September and Wednesday 25 September .
