The movie, ‘The Weekend’ and historical thriller, ‘Jagun Jagun’, had the most nominations for the forthcoming 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards. During the week, the Africa Film Academy, producers of AMAA, revealed that ‘The Weekend’ had 16 nominations while ‘Jagun Jagun’ followed with seven. Categories both movie were nominated for include Production Design, Costume Design, Make-Up, Visual Effect and Best Nigerian Film.

The nomination unveil was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, with members of the jury and screener college in attendance as well as the AFA board represented by Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe; the Chief Operating Officer, Tony Anih; and AMAA gala night producer, Kingsley James. It was also stated that the 20th edition of the awards ceremony, in partnership with Lagos State, is themed ‘Celebrating African Creativity’. Best Actor in Leading Role: Zolixa Xaluva (The Queenstown Kings), Gabriel Afolayan (This is Lagos), Duncan Mungai (Boda Love), Nenesenor Abloso (Letters to Goddo), Bucci Franklyn (The Weekend), Femi Jacobs (Anjola) and Chidi Mokeme (Out of Breath).
