A new map has highlighted the most dangerous places in Surrey, with the neighbourhoods plagued by the highest levels of violent crimes and sexual offences. Official police.co.
uk data shows that there was more violence in Guildford ’s Onslow Village and University neighbourhood last year than in any other part of our area. It reveals a total of 1,098 violent crimes and sexual offences during 2024 in Onslow Village and University. Of those cases, three per cent (35) were detected.
This means a suspect was charged with an offence, received a caution, or a local resolution was put in place. The figures may include some crimes which were later reclassified or cancelled. After Onslow Village and University, Guildford Town Centre was the next most dangerous place to visit, with 792 violent and sexual crimes in 2024, or the equivalent of two attacks each day.
Of those crimes, 10 per cent (78) were detected. Staines Town in Spelthorne was third-highest with 650 crimes, of which 12 per cent were detected (75). You can see how it compares to where you live using our interactive map.
The crime map records around 1.8 million reported offences. Of those, 136,000 (8 per cemt) were detected.
The map also reveals the neighbourhoods where police are completely failing to bring violent offenders to justice. There are six neighbourhoods in England and Wales where more than 100 violent offences were committed, and not a single suspect has been charged, cautioned or dealt with via a local resolution. Using Surrey Police ’s targeted policing model, the Guildford team has identified crime 'hotspots' where more regular and high-visibility patrols and targeted operations, are carried out.
Surrey Police also work closely with key partners including local councils, schools and businesses, to ensure "intelligence is being gathered and concerns are being heard and addressed". Borough Commander for Guildford, Inspector Blaine Rafferty, said: "Surrey remains one of the safest counties in the country, however, we appreciate that these types of statistics can cause concern in our local communities. Our officers are fully committed to making Guildford and wider Surrey, a safer place for everyone who lives, works, and studies here.
“We take a proactive approach to tackling crime including increasing patrols, planning community engagement events, and working closely with partner agencies to prevent offending and support victims. If you have been a victim of a crime, we encourage you to always report to us, we will listen, and where there are viable lines of enquiry, we will investigate fully." In 2024, Surrey Police said figures show that the areas within Surrey with the highest number of crime reports were: Guildford Town with 1,617 reports and a solved outcome rate of 12.
