The Superjesus songstress is all fired up to spend Valentine's Day in Albury

Albury Carnival of Cups offers epic line-up of free live music.

Sarah McLeod is all fired up to be back in Albury in less than two weeks. or signup to continue reading The Australian singer-songwriter will join and as the headline acts for the Carnival of Cups meeting at Albury Showground on Friday, February 14. In the mix for the Albury Harness Racing Club free live entertainment last year, McLeod couldn't wait to join the other class acts on stage this year.

"It's going to be a great gig!" she said. "I love Birds of Tokyo; they're an especially great live band. "I'm really inspired by them; I'm always jotting down notes about how they work the crowd and how they write songs for the best crowd interaction.



" Teaming up, the three bands will form a supergroup to perform during the event. Last year to perform Bruce Springsteen's anthem, Known as the frontwoman for rock band The Superjesus as well as for her solo work, McLeod said that challenging number had taken hours of work last year. She had to learn bass and electric guitar parts as well as the lyrics.

"I was thinking there's a lot in this song," McLeod said. "There's 100 verses! "It took me so long to work it all out that now I play it at all of my shows." Celebrating 20 years of their debut album, , The Superjesus last performed in Albury as part of their in mid-2018.

Initially known as Hell's Kitchen, The Superjesus gained national radio play with their debut 1996 EP and became a festival favourite at throughout the 1990s. Coinciding with the Albury gig, McLeod said The Superjesus would be launching their first album in 20 years. McLeod herself would release a solo album later this year.

"I've been sitting on this solo album forever," she said. "I'm excited to be putting out so much music this year. "I write so many songs and a lot don't see the light of day.

"It's such a process to get music out in the world and on Spotify but it must happen; finally we can see it and understand it and control it. "It's so much anguish getting one's songs out now though." As part of Harness Racing NSW's free Carnival of Cups series on Friday, February 14, Birds of Tokyo, The Superjesus and Things of Stone and Wood will be joined on stage by Border favourites Liam Dalby and emerging teenage group Lucey.

It will be the first time Birds of Tokyo has performed at the Carnival of Cups, which was . Harness Racing NSW marketing manager Paul Cochrane said up to 5000 people went to the Carnival of Cups meeting in Albury last year but that number was expected to soar considerably when it returned this month. "There is no doubt the demand is there and the population catchment suggests we will get an even bigger crowd with bands like Birds of Tokyo and The Superjesus putting on free concerts for all ages," he said.
