Comedian Julia Morris will host this year’s Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane in a huge event that celebrates the life and legacy of the late wildlife warrior. The event funds conservation efforts in Australia and around the world to provide lifesaving treatment to wildlife injured in road accidents and attacks from domestic animals. Overseas, it helps combat poachers, the illegal wildlife trade and communities to protect vulnerable species.

The gala is held each year in Brisbane and Las Vegas, with Saturday’s event being held at the Star Brisbane. Rove McManus, actor John Waters, country singer-songwriter Chloe Styler and Band of Blue will be appearing at the sold out event. Guests will be treated to a three-course dinner packed with entertainment, roving animals, dancing and a live auction in a khaki decked ballroom.

Steve Irwin found global fame with his hit TV series The Crocodile Hunter, the show saw several spin off documentary series feature around the world from 1997. Irwin’s family established Australia Zoo, as it is known now, on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland in the 1970s where his children Bindi and Robert continue their father’s legacy. Irwin was tragically killed by a stingray that stung him in the chest in 2006 near the Great Barrier Reef while filming a documentary.
