The Second Mpox

On Saturday, Sindh reported its first case of mpox this year after a young man tested positive in Karachi. This brings the total number of cases in Pakistan to two so far in 2025, with the first case detected in Bara tehsil of Khyber district when a woman tested positive. Last year, eight mpox cases were reported, while in 2023, the government confirmed nine cases, all among travellers returning from the Middle East and other countries.

There have been no cases of local transmission of the virus so far. To prevent further spread, it is essential for the government to implement strict precautionary measures. This includes launching awareness campaigns across the country to educate the public about the virus and ensuring that necessary health protocols are followed.
