Scotland boasts unlimited beautiful scenery. And this loch is not only an ideal getaway spot, it was also featured in Harry Potter. Loch Morar in the Highlands is the deepest freshwater body in the British Isles, and the fifth-largest by surface area in Scotland .
It can serve as a stunning day trip destination or a short holiday spot. With gorgeous views out across the water and plenty of walking trails and secluded beaches, you'd struggle to find a destination as gorgeous as this anywhere else in the world. And if you're a film buff, you may even recognise this beautiful body of water.
Harry Potter fans in particular may remember it as one of the lochs that was used to depict Hogwarts Lake throughout the famous film series. Loch Morar isn't featured specifically in any single scene in Harry Potter, but instead it was used across the films for close-up shots of the lake. Even those who don't consider themselves Harry Potter fans may recognise Loch Morar from another film that was shot in Scotland: the 1995 historical biographical drama film Rob Roy.
Tourism Stories Starring Liam Neeson as the titular folk hero, the movie sees him battle corrupt moneylenders to protect his family. The northern shore of the loch features in the movie as the site of Rob Roy and his wife Mary's (Jessica Lange) home before it is burned down by Redcoats. The cottage was built specifically for the film, and was dismantled after filming, but fans will no doubt recognise the spot where it once stood.
