The fictional couple, referred to as Chenford by the Rookie fans, has garnered considerable popularity. However, they broke up in Season 6, and since then, fans have been wondering when they might get back together.

Alexi Hawley on what’s keeping Chenford apart in The Rookie Season 7Recently, Howley spoke about Bradford and Chen’s relationship and the chances of reconciliation while speaking to ScreenRant. He disclosed that he and his collaborators on the show didn’t want “to cheap out on the fallout from the breakup” to underscore “that the damage that was done was real.” They also wanted to show the impact the dissolution of their relationship had on Chen and give Bradford the time to understand that he hurt someone he deeply cared about while trying to harm himself.



Howley noted that it was “important” for them “to see him commit to actually trying to be a better man” and to have Chen realize “she needed to make sure that she was putting her career and her emotional health first.”The seeds of a potential relationship between Bradford and Chen were scattered throughout the early episodes of The Rookie before they officially became a couple. The pair go on an undercover mission together in Season 4, pretending to be a couple.

In Season 5, they go on their first date.Bradford ended things with Chen in Season 6 Episode 6, after his own actions forced him to question his character. Recently, the pair decided on April Fools’ Day (Season 7 Episode 12) that they could be intimate with each other as much as they want and tell others that it’s a prank.

Howley expressed that these “hookups feel very human” before proceeding to state that reconciliation can happen. “As we’ve gone through the season now, we’ve seen them heading closer and closer together and their relationship getting healthier without them losing focus on the things that need to happen before, in theory, they get back together,” he said.The Rookie Season 7 airs on Tuesdays at 9:00 pm ET.
