There will be no local elections in Bolton this year - and here is why. People from across the UK will soon be taking to the polls to place their votes for who they think should run their council. Boltonians are no stranger to the ballot box, having voted for the last three years, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
It is for that reason that there will be no Bolton Council election in the town this year. There are different systems by which council elections are organised - voting every four years, where all councillors are elected at the same time, voting by halves, where half of the councillors are elected every two years, and voting by thirds. This means that voting is only needed for three of the four years, with the fourth having no local elections. A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: "In Bolton, the council is elected in thirds with each successful candidate elected to serve a four-year term. "It means that every fourth year there are no local elections – this is the same for councils across Greater Manchester and in many other areas.
"The next local elections in Bolton will be in May 2026.".
