At first glance, you might think the W7 bus route, which is just 2.6 miles long, is a bit excessive. However, it's one of London's most frequent bus routes, arriving as often as every three minutes during weekday peak times and requiring a staggering 17 double-decker buses to operate the full service.

The W7 is essentially TfL's version of 'small but mighty'. The route begins at Finsbury Park and travels almost in a straight line up Stroud Green Road to Crouch End Broadway, before climbing further to Muswell Hill Broadway, where it ends on a roundabout. Finsbury Park sits just 30 metres above sea level, Crouch Hill is at 45 metres, and Muswell Hill reaches a tiring 105 metres. Walking up these two hills is only an option for the super fit who have a change of clothes waiting at the top. Given that Muswell Hill and Crouch Hill aren't directly served by the London Underground , and Finsbury Park is, the W7 becomes a vital route, transporting around 6 million passengers per year over the past decade up and down the two North London hills.

It's the busiest route under three miles long on London's bus network, and usually ranks within the top 150 of London's 700 each year. The W7's relatively short route is one of its biggest strengths, allowing it to operate like a self-contained shuttle. At the northern terminus, buses start and end their journeys on a roundabout - a rare sight in London due to potential traffic hazards.
