Google has officially announced that the Pixel 9a, after a last-minute postponement, will be hitting store shelves starting April 10th. This news comes after a small period of uncertainty as the device’s initial launch timeline was abruptly altered. The delay, as Google clarified, stemmed from a “component quality issue” affecting a limited number of units.

Specifically, a “passive component” within the Pixel 9a didn’t meet the company’s stringent standards for long-term device reliability. For those unfamiliar, passive components in electronics are elements like resistors, capacitors, and coils, crucial for basic electrical functions. They emphasized that the decision to postpone the launch was made to ensure the quality and longevity of the product, rather than any other speculated reasons. Here’s the revised launch schedule: April 10: United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. April 14: Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, France, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Poland, Czechia, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, and Finland.

April 16: Australia, India, Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia. “Coming soon to Japan.” It’s important to note that, due to the delay, Google has confirmed there will be no pre-orders for the Pixel 9a.

This differs from typical device launches, where pre-orders are fairly normal.
