A round-up of recent cases heard at Crawley Magistrates’ Court. Hakan Sokmen , 41, of Charles Avenue, Shiremoor, must pay £50 in a fine and surcharge after pleading guilty to speeding in a Ford on April 29, 2023, on the A259 Marina at Hastings. He pleaded guilty, and was given three points on his driving record.

Sam Cadman , 38, of Hythe Crescent, Seaford, must pay £628 in a fine, costs, and a surcharge for driving a Mercedes at 43 miles per hour in a 30mph zone on June 2, 2024, at 1.11am on the A22 Eastbourne Road in Halland. He pleaded guilty, and his driving record was endorsed with four points.



Charlotte Helen Foote , 40, of Horsham Road, Crawley, failed to comply with a community order by missing a drug rehabilitation groupwork session on February 10, 2025, and missing an office appointment February 19, 2025. Foote admitted the breach, and the court varied the order to include a drug rehabilitation requirement which stipulates that Foote must have treatment for drug dependency for 10 months. Michael Siatous , 43, of Sunningdale Court, Southgate, Crawley, failed to comply with a community order by missing unpaid work appointments on February 8, 2025, and February 15, 2025.

The order was varied to include an additional 10 hours of unpaid work, in addition to the 100 hours already imposed. He admitted the breach, and must also pay £85 in costs. Paul Ward , 45, of Prestwood Close, Langley Green, Crawley, admitted to failing to comply with a community order by missing office appointments on January 21, 2025, January 28, 2025, and February 3, 2025.

The order was varied to include an additional 10 rehabilitation activity days. Lewis Brown , 20, of Orchard Way, East Grinstead, admitted to failing to comply with a community order by missing unpaid work appointments on February 5, 2025, and February 7, 2025. The court varied the order to include an additional 15 hours of unpaid work, in addition to the 180 hours already imposed.

Kabelo Mlungisi Monyebudi , 29, of St John’s Road, Redhill, was given a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after he breached a community order by failing to attend unpaid work appointments on January 30, 2025 and February 13, 2025. The community order was revoked, and he was sentenced for the original offence of the theft of a white Ford Transit van on January 23, 2024, at Lindfield in Mid Sussex. The court noted his "wilful and persistent failure to comply with the requirements of a community order".

Steven Pinner , 63, of Laws Close, Ifield, Crawley, was fined £50 for failing to comply with supervision requirements imposed following release from a period of imprisonment, after failing to report as instructed for drug testing on September 19, 2024, November 7, 2024, and January 13, 2025. The purpose of the drug testing was to ensure that Pinner was complying with the stipulation of his supervision period requiring him to be of "good behaviour". He admitted the breach.

Spencer Grover , 21, of Kendall Court, Southdowns Park, Haywards Heath, was fined £25 and must pay £85 in costs after failing to comply with a community order by missing unpaid work appointments on December 10, 2024, and December 17, 2024. The community order was revoked, having originally been imposed for the offence of trespassing in a Subway restaurant on Church Walk in Haywards Heath on June 27, 2023, with intent to steal. A new community order was imposed, requiring Grover to participate in up to 14 days of rehabilitation activity.

Peter Heath , 57, of Cromwell Road, Hove, must pay £98 in a fine and surcharge for speeding in a Ford on July 28, 2022, on Old Shoreham Road in Hove. He pleaded guilty and was given three points on his driving record. James Stratford , 38, of The Gables, Guildford, must pay £98 in a fine and surcharge for driving a Volkswagen at a speed exceeding 70mph on October 5, 2023, on the M23 at Crawley.

He pleaded guilty and his driving record was endorsed with three points. Adam Gibbs , 33, of no fixed address, had his 30-week suspended prison sentence activated after failing to attend probation appointments on February 10, 2025, and February 18, 2025. The suspended sentence was imposed on Gibbs following a number of thefts.

Between October 19, 2024, and January 30, 2025, he stole items such as alcohol and meat from shops in Worthing and Littlehampton, including M&S in Montague Street, Co-op in Rowlands Road, and Sainsbury’s in High Street. Gibbs was convicted of 14 separate offences of stealing alcohol, six offences of stealing meat, one offence of stealing a mountain bike at Splashpoint Leisure Centre in Worthing, and one instance of stealing £130 worth of hair and beauty products from a Co-op, also in Worthing. Mason McGarry , 19, of Westward House, Chichester, was sent to a young offender institution for eight weeks for failing to comply with supervision requirements following a detention and training order, by not residing at an approved address on February 8, 2025, and February 9, 2025, and twice testing positive for cocaine without disclosing its use.

The original order was imposed for dangerous driving and possession of drugs with intent to supply. McGarry admitted the breach..
