The Oscars Will Finally Recognize Stunts

Here’s some explosive Oscars news: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will introduce an award for Achievement in Stunt Design at its 100th awards ceremony in 2028. Finally! The Oscars’ first-ever stunt trophy comes after years of campaigning from stunt workers and critics , including on this very website . The Academy appeared to be moving toward an award since 2023, after previously shooting down a proposal in 2005 .

“We are proud to honor the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them for their commitment and dedication in reaching this momentous occasion,” said CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang in a statement. Rules for the new award will be announced in 2027, per an Academy press release. The new Best Stunt Design award follows the introduction of another Oscar for Best Casting , which will be awarded for the first time next year.
