Markham resident Jennifer Pan, who made headlines for being convicted in an attack on her parents, has been ordered a new first-degree murder trial by the Supreme Court of Canada. At the age of 24, Pan hired three men, whom she paid $10,000 for what prosecutors said was a staged robbery on Nov. 8, 2010, with the intent of killing her parents at their Markham home, leaving her tied up to give the appearance that she was one of the victims.
Her mother, Bich Ha, died from a gunshot to the head. Her father, Hann Pan, survived being shot and testified against her in court. Now, at the age of 38, and having sat behind bars for the first 14 years of her life sentence, the Supreme Court of Canada has confirmed an order for new first-degree murder trials for Pan and the three others who were involved and convicted.
