Tell us about your experience in the hair industry?

I have spent the past five years in the hair care industry, successfully launching my own brand, Hair Syrup. Throughout this journey, I have personally tested and evaluated hundreds of products, as well as working closely with cosmetic chemists to develop innovative new formulas. These experiences combined have provided me with a deep understanding of hair care ingredients and their effects.

When embarking on a hair care journey, it is always good to firstly set and manage your realistic expectations. Hair growth can be influenced by a number of factors including genetics, diet, hormones and lifestyle. If you are noticing any significant issues with hair loss or stagnant growth, contacting a health care professional could be a good place to check for any underlying issues.

There are several things you can do to help promote longer lengths and support the natural growth process. An important part of hair growth is focusing on length retention and scalp care. A few ways to keep your scalp in optimal condition could include detox treatments, deep oiling and regular scalp massages.

For length retention, I recommend ensuring the ends of your hair are kept hydrated, nourished and cared for by applying daily moisturiser, serums and oils. It is also important to use a gentle, non-tugging hairbrush and cut down on the heat to avoid breakage. It’s also good to keep an eye out for key ingredients that have been shown to aid hair growth, for example, rosemary oil and flaxseed.

Our two best-selling scalp treatments, Rapunzel and Growsmary have been independently tested and were shown to increase hair growth by over 30pc. Although there are divided opinions on coconut oil, I personally love it as a hair care ingredient and am always drawn to products that are rich in it. It can help to protect hair against environmental aggressors and damage, while its fatty acids content help to boost moisture and combat frizz.

Our superfoods hair oil contains raw coconut oil that boosts lustre and general hair health. This is another contentious hair care subject — how often should we be washing our hair? Some experts recommend daily washing, while others warn against the potentially drying effect this can have. In my opinion, the best thing to do is whatever feels right for your hair; you don’t necessarily need to be guided on this.

Providing you’re using a suitable shampoo and the over/under washing isn’t causing issues, trust your gut in the frequency of wash days. I wash my hair an average of once a week and this helps to keep my scalp cleansed, my hair healthy and a good growth speed. One of the most effective ways to reduce frizz is to apply a pre-wash hair oil treatment across your locks for a few hours prior to shampooing.

Pair the oiling with a deep conditioning mask and the difference will be phenomenal. Another good hack is to sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase and always use scrunchies over elastic ties. One of the best things I ever did for my hair routine was swapping out regular conditioner for deep conditioning masks.

Hair masks are generally more nourishing and enriching than regular conditioner and provided you find the right one, it won’t weigh your hair down. The best way to prevent heat damage is always going to be to avoid heat altogether, but, for a lot of us, that’s simply unsustainable. Investing in a good heat protectant spray and ensuring the tools are kept to a lower setting should help with damage limitation.

Some experts recommend regular trims, but I believe it’s all dependent on your hair health and haircut. I personally only get my hair cut a few times a year but to keep split ends at bay, I use a pair of hairdressing scissors to individually trim any frayed strands. I wouldn’t advise cutting your own hair if you have no professional training or experience.

At most, I would recommend split end dusting, but no major alterations. Hair Syrup Rapunzel will always be my signature product! I’ve always struggled with stagnant, slow hair growth and brittle ends. This two-in-one product helps to keep my hair long, healthy and smooth.
